Give Me An O
04:32
|
|||
My family comes from Norway, ya sure you betchya.
But I’d rather some whiskey than some lefse
I’d love to shout “ERIN GO BRAGH,” but I’m stuck with “Oof da”
Where does that getchya?
O, my Irish wife, I’m glad I metchya
I found this girl with emerald eyes like whoa
Now she’s my Irish lass and I’m her beau
And the day that we got hitched, we took our names and made a switch,
A portmanteau
She took on my “Bent,” I gave him an O.
I wish I could be Irish
It’s your lips I long to kiss, please,
Help me understand Ulysses,
I’m ready to go,
Give me an O
My grandfather came from County Down, raised a bunch of O’Neils in Boston town
I’ve got so much Irish cred, you would think my hair’d be red, but it’s brown.
Seems some of those genes did not pass down.
I’ve never kissed the Blarney Stone, it’s true, and I can’t stand to eat potato stew
Though my heart pumps Celtic blood, I think Guinness tastes like mud
And there’s the wrong amount of leaves on my shamrock tattoo
I wish, I could be a better Irish.
Though I think the accent’s hot, a brouge I haven’t got,
Hi-di-tiddley-ti-di-hoooooo, Give me a O
[“jokes”]
Oh Danny Boy, the pipes they are a callin’
From glen to glen, and down the [chaos]
One thing’s for sure, from fake Micks to the Real McCoys
Nobody knows the feckin’ words to Danny Boy
So no matter what your name is, you belong
Be you Olafsen or Finkelstein, Rosario, or Wong
When a Murphy calls out “slainte!”
I can guarantee he’ll wantchya to sing along
So join us in our faux-Irish drinking song
I wish everybody was Irish
So on Saint Paddy’s Day, go ahead and fake it all the way
And I hope this stupid song won’t invoke the wrath of Lepre-Khan, uh-oh
Give me an O, Give me an O, GIVE ME AN O

Aerialista
03:30
|
|||
A spotlight shines on the stage
and all other lights are dimmed low
a rope glides down from the top of the tent
the crowd falls silent below
A figure appears on the stage
she slowly circles the ring
her hands grab tight to the rope
the band starts to play, she pulls herself up
and she's rising, rising
until the crowd becomes a blur
She's up in the air but she'd rather come down
down to the people who make her feel
like there's more to be found
like there's more truth in the ground
In her dreams, most every tight
the crowd turns into a line
She's there on their level
they meet eye to eye
they come to her one at a time
She learns every name and hears every story
each connection is strong
they tell her their wishes
she makes them come true
they thank her and then move along
And she's revising, revising
what her job could mean to her
It's energizing galvanizing
it might finally be her turn
Someday she'll be a barista!
no more flying aerialista
she'll trade in her trapeze and rope
for an apron a dish towel and soap
She's up in the air but she'd rather come down
down to the people who make her feel
like there's more to be found
like there's more truth in the grounds
She'll make mochas and serve lots of lattes
for hippies, she'll brew yerba mattes
whatever you want, she can brew it
You want a venti half whole milk, one quarter 1%, one quarter non fat, extra hot, splid quad shot - one and a half shot decaf, two and a half shot regular, no foam latte with whip, half packet of splenda, one sugar in the raw, touch of vanilla and three short sprinkles of cinnamon...
Nothing to it.
And all day long her hearts singing a song
cause she brightened your day,
though she spelled your name wrong
it's job satisfaction of a whole new kind
but it's all in her mind
There are ropes to be climbed
there are flips to be flipped
keep your mind on the rope
don't lose your grip

End of the Line
03:32
|
|||
Last night, you asked me for two seasons
Come winter, spring, could we still sing?
I listed all my broken reasons
Even in spring, I can hear an ending
But
Down this road, we go, down this road
Down this road we go, down this road
Birds return, but fly south in fall
Oh, we’re falling now
But you’ll go in June
When blossoms open, ephemeral
Blooms go brown, they wilt too soon
So
Down this road, we go, down this road
Down this road we go, down this road
You’ll take the road away, but then
Could I learn to hear heart’s even sound?
It startles red away but back again
And again. And again.
Could you turn back like blood that’s found
The end of the vein, end of the line?
Back to the heart
Home to be mine.
Down this road, we go, down this road
Down this road we go, down this road
Down this road, we go, down this road
Down this road we go, down this road
Down this road, we go, down this road
Down this road we go, home to be mine.

August
04:21
|
|||
Well I fell down yesterday
guess it's happened more than once
as I lay there on the floor
feeling like a total dunce
Then I saw you
with such a grin
you shook your head
you took me into a land of total serenity
August, if you can get up, maybe I can too
August, when I grow up I wanna be like you
when the rain clouds gather in
and we've got to shield our tents
hope the lightning doesn't strike
and send us running for the fence
I know you'll smile
straight through the storm
the wind may howl
you'll keep us warm with your love and with your wonder
August, if you can get up, maybe I can too
August, when I grow up I wanna be like you
Some days the world can be too big
and nothing seems to work
when trouble bares
his crooked fangs
You'll greet him with
a toothless smirk
when life has knocked
you down again
you keep on plowing
through the muck
I know we'll be okay
cuz I don't believe in luck but I do believe in you
August, if you can get up, maybe I can too
August, when I grow up I wanna be like you
August, if you can get up, maybe I can too
August, when I grow up I wanna be like you

You Can Do Anything
02:01
|
|||
You, you can do anything
Unstoppable, you
You, you can do anything
Never fail to come through
It’s undeniable, you’re reliable
That’s why you’ll be a big to-do
You can do anything,
I’m sticking with you
You’re awesome, possum
You’re a funky monkey
You’re a dream of a lemur
You’re a cave bear who gets all spelunky
You’re a menagerie, you’re honey-badgery,
You’re more exciting than a trip to the zoo
You can do anything,
I’m sticking with you
Climb up the walls of a castle?
For you, no hassle
Play the bass for a rock band’s demo?
No problem, that’s your MO.
Get a big promotion, or swim across the ocean
For you that’s no commotion, just a thing that you do
You can you anything
I’m sticking with you
You, you could have anyone
Unmatched in looks, or smarts, or personality
You, you could have anyone
You charm the world with witty repartee
So it’s confusing, that you’re choosing me
Out of all the fish in the sea
Someone who could do anything
Would want to do me

Bye, Felicia [explicit]
04:28
|
|||
I went out to get a pizza,
Made a new friend named Felicia
So I said, “HI FELICIA”
She glared at me, I stared at her,
I didn’t mean to cause a stir.
So I said; “WHY FELICIA?”
She said “Let me teach ya,
The worst part of being Felicia:
Inevitably when people meet ya
Somebody says ‘BYE FELICIA’
And they think they’re oh so f**king clever”
She made me promise not to do it
I replied “There’s nothing to it”
AYE AYE, FELICIA
I’ll fight the urge like Yoda taught
It’s easy as Do Or Do Not
There is no TRY, FELICIA
I’m a nice guy, Felicia
I’d never make a joke you can’t abide, Felicia
Until the day I die, Felicia
You’ll never hear me say “BYE, FELICIA”
Because I am a very good friend
Oh why, Felicia do you sigh
Ev’ry time, somebody says goodbye?
Oh why does it make you cry
When everybody says “BYE FELICIA!”?
When it rains you wear a coat
To keep your chipper mood afloat
It keeps you DRY, FELICIA
To thank your tour guide named Watt
Just remember “Kop kum kap”
That’s “thank you” in THAI, FELICIA
And when you have a drink with Jews
Say this as you clink your booze
“L’CHAIM, FELICIA”
I don’t mean to pry, Felicia
I know you like girls but how ‘bout guys, Felicia?
On Kinsey’s scale where do you lie, Felicia?
Are you BI Felicia?
Uh...[profuse apologies]
Oh why, Felicia do you sigh?
Every time somebody says goodbye
Oh why do you curse at the sky?
When everybody says Bye, Felicia
German leader Angela Merkel
Tells you the area of a circle
R squared times PI Felicia
Welcome back to Germany
Can you help me count to three?
Ein, Zwei, Drei, Felicia
I hope you like this song, Felicia
If you think I’m sorry you’re wrong, Felicia
And if I apologized, Felicia
It would be nothing but lies, Felicia
As bald-faced of a lie as a guy with alopecia
I know you can’t take no more, Felicia
I want to see you out that door, Felicia
Bye Bye Bye, Felicia
[“take it to the bridge!”]
Oh why, Felicia do you sigh?
Every time somebody says goodbye
Oh why is there murder in your eye
When everybody says so long, Farewell,
Auf widersehn good-Bye, Felicia!

I dreamed of this wedding my whole life long
We'd kiss in front of a jubilant throng
Then COVID came, and f***ed it all up
No so many things have gone wrong
You're still my bride and I'm still your groom
As we try to drown out this feeling of doom
It'd probably be a lot easier if we just got married on Zoom
O, my love, O, my love, this is our our special day
O, my love, O, my love, I got something to day
I'd marry you in a flood or a coup
But not again in a global pandemic
We switched up the venue then switched it again
We looked at the guest list and divided by 10
We pushed back the date until August
Cuz the COVID thing will surely be wrapped up then (oops)
We asked for a nasal swab from every guest
No dancing or hugging if you don't past the test
Now we're spread out at this reception
If you call it that, we'll all be under arrest
(yup, that was a thing)
O, my love, O, my love, this is our our special day
O, my love, O, my love, I got something to day
I'd marry you at the top of K2
But not again in a global pandemic
Here we are, married at last
Eyes bright with love, hands tightly clasped
Soon all of this hardship will gone
Safely consigned to the past
O, my love, O, my love, this is our our special day
O, my love, O, my love, I got something to day
I'd marry you in a hurricane or two
But not again in a global pandemic
Don't get hitched in a global pandemic
Don't tie the knot in a global
(oh dear, here come the murder hornets)
pandemic

I Can't Wait to Meet You
01:58
|
|||
Hey there, little sweet potato, How you doin' today?
You've still got a ways to go now, til it's time to play.
Maybe some day we'll all jam, but for today you're just a yam
Hey there little, sweet potato, I can't wait to meet you.
Someday I'll teach you to tango
But for now you're just a mango
I will care at all times for you
Apparently, you're a carrot
Maybe that one doesn't really make sense, anyway
Hey there little, papaya, how you doin' today?
You've still got a ways to go now, til it's time to play.
One day you may play a horn, now you're just an ear of corn.
Hey there little zoo-zucchini, I can't wait to meet you.
Some day you will drive us so nuts
Sleep now in your shell, coconut
Rest and grow until you're ready
My pokey, punchy, pineapple
[angry pregnant lady words]
Hey there little honeydew, hey there, growing chard
Hey there little winter melon, hey there, little rhubarb
Soon the countdown will be done
You'll leave the dark and meet the sun
Hey there mister Murphy Macklin, I can't wait to meet you.
|
||||
9. |
||||
Since the day that we met
There's a spring in my step
Like a gay kangaroo
But though my heart is poppin', I gotta resist
Cuz it's too soon to say "I love you"
Tell me how did you get so deep in my head?
Can't stop hummin' your tune
But though you've got me spinning, the rules insist
It's too soon to say "I love you"
It'd be fine to say I love every moment we share
It's okay to say I love how you kiss
It's no problem to admit I love your smile or your hair
I can say "Hey" or "Rawr" Or "Um, so there's this"
But there's a firm etiquette, says that we're not there yet
This whole thing is too new
I'll swallow down the words, even if they're true
It's too soon to say "I love you"

Once in a blue moon, a free afternoon somehow magically appears
There’s nowhere we’re expected, my phone is disconnected,
Honey grab a couple beers
The sunlight is dappled, let’s take a nap, old friend, meet me out in the yard
The trees are looking breezy, life is feeling easy,
Let’s not make it too hard
I’m sure there’s something more important we should be doing
The floor in the kitchen could really use a mop
Maybe we should - stop!
Forget your to-do list, I’m writing you a new list
Right now this is all you need
It’s just you, and me, and don’t forget the puppy,
Hanging in a hammock underneath the alder tree
I can’t believe, both of us are free, it seems too good to be true
Go and grab a book that you keep meaning to look at,
And read me a chapter or two
As you turn the pages, it feels like it’s been ages since the clock has slowed down
In a scheduling reversal, there’s no meetings or rehearsals
To drag us out into town
I’m sure there’s something critical that we’re forgetting
There’s, forty-four hundred e-mails you haven't read
I’ll read ‘em when I’m dead
Your inbox astounds me, but put your arms around me
Right now this is all we need
It’s just you and me, let’s crack the fancy whiskey
Hanging in a hammock underneath the alder tree
{instrumental}
The agenda is to frolic, the setting is bucolic, has a schedule ever been so sweet?
There’s nothing to disrupt us, no plans to interrupt us
Hang on, there’s Nazis marching in the street
They call themselves the “alt-right,” they’re angry, armed, and all-white,
And screaming something about liberal cucks
The cops seem to condone them, POTUS won’t disown ‘em,
He said “stand down and stand by?!!!”, (WHAT THE FUCK)
I’m sure there’s something more romantic we could be doing
But we can’t ignore these racist douchebags and their fascist plans,
So take my hand
I guess we’ll spend vacation, at a counter-demonstration
Right now, this is what we need
it’s just you, and me, marching in the summer breeze
Doin’ what we can to protest inequality
It’s just you, and me, and an appallingly small percentage of the GOP
Doing what we can to combat white supremacy
But someday you, and me, I promise that eventually….
we’ll hang out in a hammock underneath the alder tree

Sometimes, sometimes
I feel the world has done me wrong
Some times, sometimes
I feel like no one hears my song
And when these fears fill my thoughts
I try to focus on the little things I've got
Like being an American-born native English speaker raised in a two-family home in the upper-middle-class and going to a private liberal arts college that led directly to a job
And being tall and cisgender and right-handed and neurotypical and able-bodied and Christian and in my 30's and (oops I almost forgot) straight and white and male
And I think maybe I'll just shut the f**k up.

Love on Top
04:08
|
|||
Baby, baby,
I can see the stars all the way from here
Can't you see the glow on the window pane?
I can feel the sun whenever you're near
Every time you touch me, I just melt away
Baby, baby, I can hear the wind whipping past my face
As we dance the night away
Boy, your lips taste like a night of champagne
As I kiss you again, and again, and again, and again
Now everybody asks me why I'm smiling out from ear to ear
But I know
Nothing's perfect, but it's worth it
After fighting through my tears
And finally, you put me first
Baby, it's you, you're the one I love
You're the one I need, you're the only one I see
Come on, baby, it's you
You're the one that gives your all
You're the one I can always call
When I need you, make everything stop
Finally, you put my love on top

Smile (arr. Ben Bram)
03:42
|
|||
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by
If you smile
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the Sun come shining through, for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you'll just smile
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you'll just smile

Boxing Day [explicit]
04:07
|
|||
The stockings lay about unstuffed
The gifts have shed their wrapping
The tree will soon be on the curb
And Grandpa's soundly napping
Christmastime has come and gone,
"Hope!" the new year heralds
But the greatest cause for joy is this:
No more goddamn Christmas carols
No more Rudolph, no more elves
No more drummer boys or incessant jingle bells
No more tiny Whoville chorus,
Singing "da-who-f***ing-dorus,"
No, no
Whoa, whoa
Oh, it's boxing day, baby, and tonight we're gonna sing something new
So no more ads!
No more jingles!
No more TV-hawking corporate Kris Kringles
Stop invoking love and peace
To get your profits to increase, yeah, yeah
Whoa, whoa
Cuz it's boxing day, baby, and I ain’t buying nothing from you.
[piano solo]
Unholy blight
Of turtle doves and Santas
To sell us junk so we don't feel like jerks
Don't get me wrong, I like most Christmas songs,
I ain't no Scrooge,
But all the world has just endured
A three-month-long deluge
And there's no way I can describe
The joy I feel inside
The day I buy my groceries
without hearing silent night
No more mangers next to light-up Frosty
We can all go back to being agnosty
Hug a couple Jews, and share with the good news
It’s boxing day baby, and the Christmas season finally is through
No more shepherds, no more sheep,
No more Christmas season creep
I remember,
When it was just December,
Watch out, Thanksgiving, it's annexing November
Soon you’ll hear “O Tannenbaum” at Walmarts in September
But now it's boxing day, baby, and tonight we're gonna sing something new.
Yeah it's boxing day, baby, and at last we're gonna sing something new.
It’s boxing day baby, and tonight
We’re gonna celebrate
Because we don’t have to hear Christmas carols anymore
Until next June

Out of Reasons
06:38
|
|||
A shy young boy lived
By the banks of a river
Every day he read books by the shore
His friends all teased him
But the boy just smiled back
They'd say "why don't you come play in the water with us?
We're swimmin' past the dock, we're goin' out as far as we can"
But the boy said
"I don't know where the river will wind
You'll never be certain of just what you'll find
All I know is if I stay here I'll be fine"
The young boy grew up
By the banks of a river
Every day he'd watch the ships go by
The people on the boats waved
But the man just smiled back
From time to time, a boat would tie off to his dock
He'd give them food, he'd open up him home to the travelers
They'd say "thank you for your hospitality
Why don't you come sail with us until we find the sea?"
But the man said
"I don't know where the river will wind
You'll never be certain of just what you'll find
All I know is if I stay here I'll be fine"
The young man stayed home
As years and ships passed by
Till one day a simple raft arrived
The single traveler smiled
And the man just smiled back
He gave her food, he gave her the warmth of home
She stayed for the night, she stayed for a month and more
Then she said "thank you for everything, my friend
But I hear the river calling me again"
He said "I feel so at home with you
Is there room on your raft for two?
Cuz I don't know where the river winds
And I don't care about what we find
All I know is if I'm with you, I'll be fine"
Oh
I'm out of reasons not to be with you
So take my hand take my plans
And fill them up with good
|

Of all the times that you could have come
I'm glad that you're here right now
Of all the yous that you could have been
I'm glad you are who you are
Cuz if I didn't know you, I don't know who I'd be now
Of all the cells, you are so small
Comfortably vulnerable, patiently helpless
Of all the stars, you are so vast
You shine, and you shine, and you shine like the sun
And if you never looked my way, I don't know what I would do
Cuz you are the one thing in life that can change me
And you, you exist you are loved, good night.

O, my love, O, my love, I got something to day
I'd marry you at the top of K2
But not again in a global pandemic
Here we are, married at last
Eyes bright with love, hands tightly clasped
Soon all of this hardship will gone
Safely consigned to the past
O, my love, O, my love, this is our our special day
O, my love, O, my love, I got something to day
I'd marry you in a hurricane or two
But not again in a global pandemic
Don't get hitched in a global pandemic
Don't tie the knot in a global
(oh dear, here come the murder hornets)
pandemic

It's a Privilege [clean]

Sometimes, sometimes
I feel the world has done me wrong
Some times, sometimes
I feel like no one hears my song
And when these fears fill my thoughts
I try to focus on the little things I've got
Like being an American-born native English speaker raised in a two-family home in the upper-middle-class and going to a private liberal arts college that led directly to a job
And being tall and cisgender and right-handed and neurotypical and able-bodied and Christian and in my 30's and (oops I almost forgot) straight and white and male
And I think maybe I'll just shut the f**k up.

{instrumental}
The cops seem to condone them, POTUS won’t disown ‘em,
He said “stand down and stand by?!!!”, (WHAT THE F**K)
I’m sure there’s something more romantic we could be doing
But we can’t ignore these racist douchebags and their fascist plans,
So take my hand
I guess we’ll spend vacation, at a counter-demonstration
Right now, this is what we need
it’s just you, and me, marching in the summer breeze
Doin’ what we can to protest inequality
It’s just you, and me, and an appallingly small percentage of the GOP
Doing what we can to combat white supremacy
But someday you, and me, I promise that eventually….
we’ll hang out in a hammock underneath the alder tree
